African American success grew by 8% and Latino/a grew by 1% while Filipino declined by 4%.Briefly, address student success data relative to your program Growth or decline in targeted populations (Latina/o, African Ancestry, Pacific Islander, Filipino) refer to the sites: (Program reviews 2008 - 2010 available at: http://research.fhda.edu/programreview/DAProgramReview/DeAnza_PR_Div_pdf/DeAnzaProgramReviewDiv.htm AND program review data 2010-11 & 2011-12 at http://www.deanza.edu/ir/program-review.html)II.A.2 Trends in equity gap:Improvements in lowering the equity gap have been registered in African American, Latino/a, and Native American students. A small increase has been experienced in Filipino students. The equity gap between targeted groups and White students is no greater than 7% for any groups while Filipino studentsRefer to http://www.deanza.edu/president/EducationalMasterPlan2010-2015Final.pdf, p.16. Briefly address why this has occurred.II.A.3 Closing the student equity gap:Generally speaking, we have maintained the status quo. What progress or achievement has the program made relative to the plans stated in your programs 2008 -09 Comprehensive Program Review, Section III.B, towards decreasing the student equity gap? See IPBT website for past program review documentation: http://deanza.edu/gov/IPBT/program_review_files.html If a rationale for your strategies was not stated in the 2008-2009 CPRU, then briefly explain now. II.A.4 Overall growth/decline in # students:Unduplicated Head Count has declined by 2% and enrollment has declined by 5%. Success rates for all students has declined by 1%.Briefly address the overall enrollment growth or decline of a comparison between all student populations and their success.II.B Changes imposed by internal/external regulations The paralegal program has successfully completed the American Bar Association re-approval process and a very complimentary report on the program has been submitted to the American Bar Association House of Delegates recommending re-approval for an additional seven year period. The Site Report generated by the Site Team found no deficiencies but did make several suggestions to improve the program. These include improving outreach efforts to recruit minority faculty when openings arise; continuing the provision of funds for the Director and faculty to attend seminars and conferences designed for paralegal education; to continue efforts to implement assessment tools and for the college to provide funds to do it; allow courses with low enrollments to continue to be offered rather than being cancelled; for the college to make efforts to provide the program with adequate resources for release time for the Director and to provide clerical support that is necessary for the program to carry on an effective instructional program.Address program changes implemented as a response to changes in College/District policy, state laws, division/department/program level requirements or external agencies regulations? How did the change(s) affect your program? (e.g. any curriculum, program reorganization, staffing etc.)II. C Progress in Main Areas of ImprovementThere needs to be an assessment of the laptop computers available for student use in terms of age and outdated software programs. Many of the older laptops have been replaced but there is a need for more replacements/acquisitions. Based on the 2008-09 Comprehensive Program Review, Section I.C. "Main Areas for Improvement", briefly address your program's progress in moving towards assessment or planning or current implementation of effective solutions.II. D CTE Programs: Impact of External Trends:The State of California projects that for the period 2010-2020 there will be a 55.1% increase in employment for paralegals in the San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara MSA. The statewide projection is an increase of 20.1% while the national projection is an increase of 22%. All projections put the paralegal profession in the above average growth category of all occupations. Aside from continued technology instruction to stay current with trends and developments there are no needs for changes in curriculum.Career Technical Education (CTE) programs, provide regional, state, and labor market data, employment statistics, please see "CTE Program Review Addenda" at: www.deanza.edu/gov/IPBT/resources.html Identify any significant trends that may affect your program relative to: 1) Curriculum Content; 2) Future plans for your program e.g. enrollment management plans.II. E CTE Programs: Advisory Board Input:We are planning to increase technology training by continuing to implement technology use and training throughout the curriculum, including assignments utilizing course specific programs and/or forms when applicable and available.Career Technical Education (CTE), provide recommendations from this year's Advisory Board (or other groups outside of your program, etc.) Briefly, address any significant recommendations from the group. Describe your program's progress in moving towards assessment or planning or current implementation of effective solutions.III.A. 1 PLOAC SummaryFor the last two years the program has been occupied with the ABA re-approval and has not been able to address this matter.Give the percentage of Program Level Outcome statements assessed to date. State course, SLO statement, enhancement and reason for choosing this enhancement. If none, write NONE.IV. A Budget TrendsAs many of of our students come to paralegal studies from other employment where they were let go, are women returning to the work force or are students of modes means the increase in tuition has made it difficult for students to begin a course of study or continue with one begun. Unless the tuition level is reduced we expect students to continue to struggle with the costs they face. On the other hand it appears the local job market for paralegal is improving based on the number of job postings that are now coming to me and the number of our graduates getting jobs. It appears that the knowledge of improvement in the job market is reaching the population as our class enrollments for the spring quarter are up over the enrollments for last year at this time. If this trend continues we will need an enhanced budget to allow us to offer more classes.Assess the impact of external or internal funding trends upon the program and/or its ability to serve its students. If you dont work with Budget, please ask your Division Dean to give you the information. IV.B Enrollment TrendsSee IV.A above.Assess the impact of external or internal funding changes upon the programs enrollment and/or its ability to serve its students. A.1 -Faculty Position NeededReplace due to VacancyA drop down menu will allow you to choose: Replace due to Vacancy, Growth, None Needed Unless VacancyV. A.2 Justification for Faculty/Staff Positions:Full-time instructors provide vital success and retention support for students who benefit from having stability through the availability of counseling, field expertise, and tutoring not provided by a solely part-time instructor. Additionally, Federal employment predictions for both public and private legal careers reveal a strong need for qualified professionals in the foreseeable future. Part of ý College's Mission Statement is to provide the educational opportunity for all students to be successful. A full-time faculty position will help to fulfill the College's stated mission and promise to its students. If there is a request for one or more new faculty state the SLO/PLO assessment data, reflection, and enhancement that supports this need.V. A.3 Staff Position NeededGrowth PositionA drop down menu will allow you to choose: Replace due to Vacancy, Growth, None Needed Unless Vacancy Only make request for staff if relevant to your department only. Division staff request should be in the Deans summary. V. A.4 Equipment Request Over $1,000A drop down menu will allow you to choose: Under $1,000 or Over $1,000 or no equipment requested V. A.5 Equipment Title and Description, QuantityRefresh present laptops and add additional ones for student use. Does this item require new or renovated infrastructure (eg wireless access, hardwire access, electric, water or heat sources . . . ) V. A.6 Equipment JustificationStudents will use the equipment. Without the equipment, few students would be able to utilize laptop computers for live work during class time. Current equipment is expected to last for approximately five years.Who will use this equipment? What would the impact be on the program with or without the equipment? What is the life expectancy of the current equipment? How does the request promote the college mission or strategic goals? Etc. V. A.7 Facility RequestNone.Name type of facility or infrastructure items needed. Renovation vs new. Identify associated structures needed to support the facility e.g. furniture, heat lamps, lighting, unique items above and beyond what is normally included in a similar facility V. A.8 Facility JustificationN/AWho will use this facility? What would the impact be on the program with or without the facility? What is the life expectancy of the current facility? How does the request promote the college mission or strategic goals? Etc. V.B.1 Budget AugmentationPlease refer to the Deans summary. How much? Who/what could be supported if this additional funding was awarded? What would the impact be on the program with or without the funds? How does the request promote the college mission or strategic goals? If you do not deal with the B budget directly, you can use the comment: please refer to the Deans summary. V.B.2 Staff Development NeedsFunding for attendance at Paralegal Educational conferences and for faculty training in the use of legal software is needed. What assessment led to this request? What would the impact be on the program with or without the funds? How does the request promote the college mission or strategic goals? V.B.3 Future plansInstructors to participate in the SLOAC and PLOAC process and assess needs for changes or improvements. How do you plan to reassess the outcomes of receiving each of the additional resources requested above?
