Factors that have influenced this trend are the economy, eliminating our night program one summer and one spring introduction class and a general trend in the industry in which too many schools are competing for the same students. Across the country many massage schools are closing which bodes well for the future of the program at ý. Our overall success rate for targeted student population increased from 67%to 73% last year. Eight more African Americans completed classes for a jump from 50 to 61% success rate. Our Asian population completion rate declined by 23 but their success rate stayed the same at 79%. Our number of Filipino students receiving passing grades increased by 8 but their success rate dipped slightly from 89% to 86%. Three fewer Latino (a) students successfully completed classes but their overall success rate jumped from 64 to 70 %. One native American passed 1 class and 1 failed one class for a 50% success rate. The same 50% success rate applied to Pacific islanders in that 2 passed 2 classes and 2 failed 2 classes.Briefly, address student success data relative to your program growth or decline in targeted populations (Latina/o, African Ancestry, Pacific Islander, Filipino) refer to the sites: (Program reviews 2008-09 through 2012-13 available at: HYPERLINK "http://deanza.edu/gov/IPBT/program_review_files.html" http://deanza.edu/gov/IPBT/program_review_files.html )II.A.2 Trends in equity gap:African American and Latino (a) success rates are up. The Asian and Filipino population success rates are stable. While the rates for Native American, Pacific Islanders and White students are down. Its alarming that the success rate for white students dropped from 90% to 77%. We believe that the aforementioned decline in success rates are due to the students having poor study habits, poor attendance and lack of organizational skills. Refer to HYPERLINK "http://www.deanza.edu/president/EducationalMasterPlan2010-2015Final.pdf" http://www.deanza.edu/president/EducationalMasterPlan2010-2015Final.pdf , p.16. Briefly address why this has occurred.II.A.3 Closing the student equity gap:Last year we increased our student success rate of targeted populations from 67% to 72%. This is only 5 percentage points lower than the success rates of white students. We see this as an achievement gap for all students. We believe that many of the white students have poor study habits and are not prepared for college. Instead of raising the success rates of the targeted students we must concentrate our efforts on increasing the retentions and success of all students in our program. We will continue to encourage students to students to attend class each day on time, to take notes, do their homework and study for tests. We will continue to strongly encourage them to take advantage of the Colleges free tutoring, mentoring and tutoring sessions afforded to them through course interns and the program assistant as well as class review sessions. We are also excited about new software study tools that could supplement the study of kinesiology (linking muscles to movements) that were recently seen at a conference. An application for VTEA funding next year will include a request for a site license. We hope to first let instructors utilize the software in class and pilot a study to see whether the material should be made available to students as individuals so that they can study online. What progress or achievement has the program made relative to the plans stated in your programs 2008 -09 Comprehensive Program Review, Section III.B, towards decreasing the student equity gap? See IPBT website for past program review documentation: HYPERLINK "http://deanza.edu/gov/IPBT/program_review_files.html" http://deanza.edu/gov/IPBT/program_review_files.html If a rationale for your strategies was not stated in the 2008-2009 CPR, then briefly explain now. II. A.4.a.Plan if success rate of program is below 60%Although the overall success rate of our targeted students is above the institutions target of 60%, we would like to continue to student our students needs. A successful African American graduate of the program has been invited to our next Advisory Board meeting to offer his insight as to how to raise the achievement of this consistently underperforming group of students. In accordance with ACCJC requirements, the college has adopted an institutional standard for successful course completion at or above 60% HYPERLINK "http://www.deanza.edu/ir/deanza-research-projects/2012_13/ACCJC_IS.pdf" http://www.deanza.edu/ir/deanza-research-projects/2012_13/ACCJC_IS.pdf If course success rates in your program fall below 60%, what are the departments plans to bring course success rates up to this level?II. Factors that have influenced this trend are the economy, eliminating our night program and one summer and one spring introduction class and a general trend in the industry in which too many schools are competing for the same students. However, ý is the only Northern California public institution that offers an affordable pathway to an AA degree in Massage Therapy.Briefly address the overall enrollment growth or decline of a comparison between all student populations and their success.II.B Changes imposed by internal/external regulations NAAddress program changes implemented as a response to changes in College/District policy, state laws, division/department/program level requirements or external agencies regulations? How did the change(s) affect your program? (e.g. any curriculum, program reorganization, staffing etc.)II. C Progress in Main Areas of ImprovementWe have added new sections of the Introduction to Massage to start more students in the program. This will insure that our more advanced classes are larger. Instead of printing brochures, we have improved our website so that is displays thorough and accurate information about our program. We have completed two student outreach events at local high schools this year. Many advanced students have been mentoring and tutoring the beginning students. Looking forward, a major curriculum revision is a possibility. For example, separating the Introduction to Massage class into two separate classes. Dividing the course material would allow more time for students to learn the content. This may greatly help with student retention and success. Based on the 2008-09 Comprehensive Program Review, Section I.C. "Main Areas for Improvement", briefly address your program's progress in moving towards assessment or planning or current implementation of effective solutions.II. D CTE Programs: Impact of External Trends:According to the state of California Employment Development Department: The Occupational Projections of Employment for San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara during the time period of 2010-2020 Projected 1,800 new jobs. Other industries employing Massage Therapists include Personal Care Services, Offices of Other Health Care Practitioners and Other Recreation Industries employing 5,738 Massage Therapists in Santa Clara County. According to US News & World Report: Massage Therapists rank as the #17 best Health Care Job. Massage Therapists rank as the #27 best Overall Job. According to the website Indeed.com as of 2/4/2014 there are approximately 64 new Massage Therapist positions currently available in Santa Clara County. Career Technical Education (CTE) programs, provide regional, state, and labor market data, employment statistics, please see "CTE Program Review Addenda" at: www.deanza.edu/gov/IPBT/resources.html Identify any significant trends that may affect your program relative to: 1) Curriculum Content; 2) Future plans for your program e.g. enrollment management plans.II. E CTE Programs: Advisory Board Input:The Advisory Board recommended against starting a Medical Massage program. They also want all instructors to encourage students to apply for their CAMTC certification as soon as they are eligible. They also recommended that students apply for the National Board Certification as soon as they qualify. Career Technical Education (CTE), provide recommendations from this year's Advisory Board (or other groups outside of your program, etc.) Briefly, address any significant recommendations from the group. Describe your program's progress in moving towards assessment or planning or current implementation of effective solutions.III.A. 1 PLOAC SummaryA survey of graduate students was implemented in the Spring of 2013. 100% of the students who completed the survey agreed that their clients report that their pain levels decreased after therapeutic applications were implemented. Most importantly, the graduates themselves agreed that this program emphasized and taught them how to discern contraindicated massage situations.Give the percentage of Program Level Outcome statements assessed to date. Run report entitled XXX PLOAC work and scroll to the bottom of the report for counts. Then calculate #Reflections & Analysis/#PLO statement times 100. This percentage may be over 100% or 0%. All courses and programs are to be assessed before the Comprehensive Program Review in Spring 2014.III.A.2 Enhancement based on PLOAC assessmentNONE State an enhancement that was enacted this year as a direct result of an assessment of a program level outcome. State PLO statement, enhancement and reason for choosing this enhancement. If none, write NONE.III.B.1 SLOAC Summary100Give the percentage of Student Level Outcome statements assessed to date. Run report entitled CIS SLOAC work and scroll to the bottom of the report for counts. Then calculate #(Reflections & Analysis + #Archived from ECMS) /#SLO statement times 100. This percentage may be over 100% or 0%. All courses and programs are to be assessed before the Comprehensive Program Review in Spring 2014.III.B.2 Enhancement based on SLOAC assessmentIntroduction to Massage students requested more lab time, the class is now set up for one full class as a lab and one class for lecture. Chair Massage and Shiatsu Massage students requested more feedback from instructor during lab time as well as specific guidelines in preparation for written tests. Intermediate Massage students requested that SOAP note feedback be presented in a classroom group setting so they could learn from each others mistakes. Sports Massage students requested more time working with athletes in the classroom setting as well as more time with stretching techniques. Advanced Massage students requested more hands lab time on time with instructor feedback. Enhancements: Instructors have been encouraged to restructured class format in order to incorporate these suggestions. State an enhancement that was enacted this year as a direct result of an assessment of a student learning outcome. State course, SLO statement, enhancement and reason for choosing this enhancement. If none, write NONE.IV. A Budget TrendsAt this point in time the massage program has enough FTE to satisfy the student demand for classes. Funding for marketing, advertising and tutoring would help bring more students to our program and help with student success. Available VTEA funding is increasing, as CTE programs in the nation are now a national goal. This bodes well for student success as curriculum changes and purchases of replacement equipment can be funded.Assess the impact of external or internal funding trends upon the program and/or its ability to serve its students. If you dont work with Budget, please ask your Division Dean to give you the information. IV.B Enrollment TrendsWe have demonstrated a slight downward trend in enrollment, however, due to class cuts previously mentioned, we have since added a new section of Introduction to massage which should boost enrollment in our advanced classes. Assess the impact of external or internal funding changes upon the programs enrollment and/or its ability to serve its students. If you dont work with Enrollment Trends, please ask your Division Dean to give you the information.V. A.1 -Faculty Position NeededReplace the programs only Full time instructor/ program coordinator who is retiringA drop down menu will allow you to choose: Replace due to Vacancy, Growth, None Needed Unless VacancyV. A.2 Justification for Faculty/Staff Positions:This program has successfully completed the viability process and has received the strong recommendation to replace the full time instructor/coordinator. If there is a request for one or more new faculty state the SLO/PLO assessment data, reflection, and enhancement that support this need.V. A.3 Staff Position NeededNone needed. A drop down menu will allow you to choose: Replace due to Vacancy, Growth, None Needed Unless Vacancy Only make request for staff if relevant to your department only. Division staff request should be in the Deans summary. V. A.4 Equipment Request Multi-function copier, fax, scanner for Massage Office, replacing 3 current inefficient pieces of aging equipment. Replacement of outdated and damaged Reception furniture including desk, chairs and computer stand for use with clinic clients and the student resource office. A drop down menu will allow you to choose: Under $1,000 or Over $1,000 or no equipment requested V. A.5 Equipment Title and Description, QuantityHP Officejet Pro X476dw Multifunction Printer, new to replace 3 pieces of outdated inefficient equipment. Current equipment is very cumbersome and requires long periods of time to work properly. This piece of equipment will be used for the entire Massage Therapy Program. Sandusky Lee L-shaped multi-purpose desk for clinic/student resource center as replacement of old desk and computer table. IM520 Economy stack chairs by KFI for waiting room/student resource office. Description should identify if the item(s) are new or replacement(s), furniture/fixtures, instructional equipment, technology related, expected life of item, recommended warrantees etc. Did this request emanate from a SLOAC or PLOAC process? Does this item require new or renovated infrastructure (eg wireless access, hardwire access, electric, water or heat sources . . . ) V. A.6 Equipment JustificationThe students and the community will use the requested equipment during the Student Clinic each Winter quarter. It will be used all year for students in the student resource office. The Multi-function office equipment will be used for all students and instructors to produce and store important documents. The current equipment is still working but very old and very inefficient. Who will use this equipment? What would the impact be on the program with or without the equipment? What is the life expectancy of the current equipment? How does the request promote the college mission or strategic goals? Etc. V. A.7 Facility RequestIt would be nice to have 12L on the refresh list. In the future, we need to develop a plan to have a clinic office and classroom that are connected so that more cohesive communication between students and instructors can occur at all times.Name type of facility or infrastructure items needed. Renovation vs new. Identify associated structures needed to support the facility e.g. furniture, heat lamps, lighting, unique items above and beyond what is normally included in a similar facility V. A.8 Facility JustificationVirtually every Massage Therapy student, instructor and all clients from the community that patronize the Massage clinic each year use this facility. Flooring is chipped, scratched, dirty and damaged. Refinishing the floor should help the office/clinic to appear more professional. Office is very outdated. Who will use this facility? What would the impact be on the program with or without the facility? What is the life expectancy of the current facility? How does the request promote the college mission or strategic goals? Etc. V.B.1 Budget AugmentationThe HP Officejet is approximately $575. The Desk is approximately $690, and 10 new chairs is approximately $360. This new equipment will allow the program to run much more effectively as well as projecting a much more professional atmosphere for the student clinic. The refinishing of the office flooring will completely update the look of the room while protecting the flooring from additional wear and tear, prolonging the life of the current flooring. Total estimate is less then $2000. How much? Who/what could be supported if this additional funding was awarded? What would the impact be on the program with or without the funds? How does the request promote the college mission or strategic goals? If you do not deal with the B budget directly, you can use the comment: please refer to the Deans summary.V.B.2 Staff Development NeedsNAWhat assessment led to this request? What would the impact be on the program with or without the funds? How does the request promote the college mission or strategic goals? V.B.3 Future plansNA How do you plan to reassess the outcomes of receiving each of the additional resources requested above?
