    Hi Black Lancers!  We are here for you.
    As a full-time Counseling Faculty member with over 20 years of experience, I’m deeply committed to helping Black students thrive in higher education. I’m passionate about social justice, equity, and creating spaces where we can be affirmed, succeed, and be supported. I co-founded Blackademia Counseling Services to uplift and empower Black student success, and I actively work to break down barriers in education. Whether it’s through counseling, support programs, or advocacy, I’m here to support your journey every step of the way.

    Hi Fam!
    My name is Dr. Gena Lopez. I am a life long Black Lancer and graduate of °®¶¹´«Ã½.  I currently am the counselor/professor for the and the Co-creator/co-coordinator of the Blackademia Collective here at °®¶¹´«Ã½. I am currently on the °®¶¹´«Ã½C College One Redesign Team, Co-Chair of the Academic Senate Social Justice Committee, and Lead Faculty Presenter on The Liberation Through Education Campaign. I take pride in being very student centered and love the work that I do. My students are a priority to me and I believe that the relationships we build together can last throughout their academic journey and beyond.

    With over 25 years of experience as a college counselor, I’m here to support you both inside and outside the classroom. I’ve worked across community colleges and four-year universities, and I’m passionate about helping Black students succeed, feel seen, and feel empowered. As one of the leaders of the A²MEND program at °®¶¹´«Ã½, I’ve dedicated my career to uplifting our community through mentorship, advocacy, and real support. As a former Division 1 athlete and wellness advocate, I believe in the power of balance, mind, body, and purpose. Whether you’re planning your next steps, looking for support, or just need someone to talk to, I’m here.

    As a proud African American and Mexican American educator, I support students, especially those in Athletics, through every step of their college journey.
