Guitar Ensemble I
Course Description
Introduction to the performance of music for guitar ensemble, emphasizing sight reading, rhythmic accuracy and ensemble skills. Music from the 15th century to the present will be rehearsed and performed. Topics may include: Music written for guitar orchestras, transcriptions from orchestral scores, transcriptions for guitar duos, trios and quartets, as well as modern music using contemporary rhythmic and melodic concepts and alternative performance techniques (prepared guitar, percussion, extended glissandi).
Student Learning Outcomes
- Learn, rehearse, and publicly perform selected repertoire from the Guitar Orchestra and ensemble literature found in various time periods from the Baroque Era to the present.
- Participate in the art of performing in a guitar ensemble by demonstrating correct technique, phrasing, balance, dynamics, and tone quality.
